Raw Is The New Ripe

We always prefer our fruits in their ripe form, but sometimes, just sometimes, raw is the new ripe. Raw papaya is a well-known ingredient in Thai food and covers under its umbrella a range of benefits for human body. I’m not a big fan of papaya but I love it in its raw form.

Busy schedules call for quick recipes, so here is a simple recipe of green papaya salad for all health enthusiasts along with why you should make raw papaya your friend forever.

RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • Raw papaya
  • Cucumber
  • Tomato
  • Onion
  • Lemon
  • Cheese (optional)

For dressing:

  • Lemon
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Italian seasoning
  • Black pepper
  • Salt
  • Sugar ( optional)

Method: Cut the ingredients in your preferred way ( I mixed and matched) and gather them in a big bowl. Make a dressing of fresh lime juice, extra virgin olive oil, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and a pinch of salt in a separate bowl; you can also add a pinch of sugar for a sweet and sour taste. Pour the dressing on the cut ingredients and mix well. Grate some cheese on the top and dig in!

Raw papaya is high in fibre and helps in bowel movement.Additionally, it also helps in cleaning the colon.

Papain and chymopapain are two enzymes in green papaya that help in better breakdown of proteins and fats and thus lead to better absorption of nutrients in our body.

Regular intake of green papaya prevents the bacteria causing UTI (Urinary Tract Infection).

In general raw papaya contains more enzymes than ripe papaya, decreases blood sugar levels in diabetic patients, and aids in menstrual cramps. So go ahead and include this amazing fruit in your next salad.
