How Drinking a Beetroot Smoothie for 3 Months Perked Up My Health

One of biggest motivation for my lifestyle shift was my Nani who despite of her severe illness never gave up the desire to live healthily. At the time when momos were among my everyday snack (still are irresistible), I discovered the medicinal properties of fruits when I saw my Nani who suffers from thrombosis, rheumatoid arthritis, boating, and has a transplanted kidney. What particularly caught my eye was the tiny shot she drank every day of aloe vera, cranberries, blueberries, and beetroot. Following her footsteps and realizing how important it is respect my body, I incorporated oodles of fruits and vegetables in my diet and became an advocate of the fruit regime in 2014. A day without fruits now seems incomplete.

Since the past few months I’ve been consuming two types of smoothies- red and green- for some health issues that I faced in October 2017. Having seen the results, I want to share how this regime helped me and provide the simplest recipe to ensure you meet your nutritional requirements via my healthy version of bloody mary.

I have a gut that requires constant care so naturally the first change that I experienced was how my digestive system started to improve in just a week, although this may vary for others. I have a relatively slow digestive system which caused me some severe problems in the past and since I can’t rely on medications forever, I incorporated adequate fiber in my diet that would reduce the pressure on my digestive track. Smoothies are extremely important in this case for the fruits and vegetables are already blended.

The next change I noticed after a while was the increased radiance on my face. A healthy skin says a lot about the inner state of our bodies and this was revealed to me by my high hemoglobin and vitamin levels. My platelet count has gone on the upper side of the scale and my immunity has increased many folds.

This bloody mary smoothie has beetroot as its magic ingredient and can have variations of other fruits and vegetables as per their seasonal availability. During winters, I add red carrots but since it’s the time of scorching heat, I have incorporated water melon in it.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Beetroot (peeled and cut into 4)
  • 1 Tomato (cut into 4)
  • 1 Cucumber (peeled and cut into 4)
  • 2 Cups of water melon (large cubes)
  • 1 Cup melon (medium cubes)
  • ½ Lemon’s juice
  • Black salt (Optional)
  • Water (as per needed)

Blend the fruits till they are smooth in a mixer and then add water to it as per your desired consistency. Squeeze lemon juice and add black salt. Do not strain the fiber!

Drink a jar regularly and hydrate your body this summer. It is great for people who don’t remember to eat their salad bowls twice a day or people who have long working hours.

Tips:  If your mixer is small, try adding the fruits in two parts to avoid spilling. (I got too excited and painted my kitchen red last week! :P)

Also, always add water after blending the fruits.
